How to Create A Real Virtual Business Opportunity

Jan 8, 2008 Linda Banks

This article provides some real tips on how to create or find your own work from home opportunity and avoid the costly scams and ripoffs.

When doing a search on the internet for work from home opportunities, the results list is a mixed bag of cons and scams as well as valid opportunities. For those individuals who truly wish to make working from home a viable plan, it is important to follow some basic tips during the search.

Avoiding Scams

The rule of thumb when searching for work from home opportunities is to never ~EVER~ pay money up front. The minute any opportunity presents itself that requires you to pay money, transfer money or has anything to do with your personal finances, immediately say "no" and move on. Just like valid on-site jobs, valid work from home jobs do not require an initial cash outlay. The only exception is when paying for a service that will allow you to browse posted jobs and submit your information for consideration. In this case, however, you are not paying for the job itself - you are paying for the networking and connection services.

Working With What You Know

The most successful individuals who work from home actually choose their opportunities by marketing their own experience and skills. Those with successful secretarial or assistant experience will look for virtual assistant opportunities. Those with accounting experience may look for virtual bookkeeping or auditing positions. In any case, by starting with a listing of what you are good at, you can more easily ferret out the true opportunities and successfully market yourself.

Starting a Virtual Business

Don't assume all opportunities exist in some black hole on the other side of the globe. The small mom-and-pop store down the street may be needing some part-time or consulting experience. Just like a brick-and-mortar store, advertise locally. Print up some business cards, join the local chamber of commerce, spread the word among your friends and make yourself available to local businesses. Many companies still like that face-to-face interaction once in awhile, even if the majority of the work is done off-site.

In this day and age of instant global connectivity, working from home is not only a viable option, but can be extremely profitable. By avoiding the scams and taking yourself seriously as your own one-person business, you can make that connection with those in need of the service you can provide.
